The Paris fire brigade used Colossus, the small electric robot designed in France, to enter Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.

Made entirely of aeronautic aluminium and tempered steel, the robot is totally waterproof and resistant to heat radiation.

It was acquired by the Paris fire brigade, which will now be able to benefit from new opportunities thanks to this robot which can, among other things :

·      Extinguish fires

·      Climbing the stairs

·      Overcoming obstacles of 30 centimetres

·      To be piloted up to 300 metres

·      Taking pictures

·      Memorising its position by GPS

·      Transfer a zoomed image to a touch-sensitive control tablet

It is a track-mounted device (500 kg), which intervenes on the front line, to avoid exposing the firefighters to fire, when temperatures are too high, or there is a risk of explosions, falls or even collapse.

The robot is controlled with a remote control that enables it to operate its multiple functions. In particular, it is equipped with a lance capable of sending 3,000 litres of water per minute.

The machine can also cool the atmosphere and thus facilitate access to the fire brigade. It would have made it possible to lower the temperature inside the Nave of Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Moreover, it is totally modular. It can carry out several missions, such as extinguishing the fire remotely, bringing equipment or carrying out reconnaissance thanks to its video inspection tools and gas sensors.
